We sent Minimasters James and Grayson back to Southport to check out the fireworks – here’s their review!

After their amazing time at Southport Air Show, we asked Minimasters James and Grayson to head to the British Musical Fireworks Championship to see what all the fuss was about – we caught up with them to find out what they did on the day!

What did you go to see?
We went to the British Musical Fireworks Championship in Victoria Park in Southport. It was really cool because we travelled there early, playing the park and went for fish and chips before the show. We even got to play on the inflatable assault course there and dance to some live music before the show started.

What did you see there?
The British Musical Fireworks Championship is a firework competition that spans three nights. Each competitor who is taking part gets to put on a 16 – 18 minute display, which must be choreographed to music.

We went on the Sunday night and saw Bring The Fire – a team of dancers who use fire while they dance – they were really brave and exciting, and we loved them! The first fireworks team we saw were called Smart Pyrotechnics – they used loads of dad’s favourite songs, so he was in his element.

We also saw Bright Sparks – their music and fireworks were amazing, and we loved them most of all!

This year’s competition was extra special because it was a Champion of Champions. Seven winners since the competition began battled it out to be crowned the ultimate winner. As we went on the Sunday night we got to see the winner get crowned. It was really exciting to see the judges deliberating and then name their winner!

What was your favourite thing about the event?
On top of the amazing fireworks, there were loads of inflatables to play on, which helped keep all the kids entertained between the displays. The obstacle course was amazing, but there were also slides and a huge helter-skelter too!

Ultimately it was just great watching the fireworks set to music. It was so clever, and the combination of bright colours, beautiful fireworks the brilliant music was so exciting to watch! Even our baby brother Noah loved them!

Why do you think families should book tickets for this event?
We had such a fantastic time. The venue felt really safe and the fireworks are so exciting – there was tent for lost children and if felt really organised in order to make sure everyone felt safe and looked after.

We will definitely be coming back next year!
