Here’s what four of the main acts have to say about Horizon Festival

Emerald, Jasper James, Hybrid Minds and Mala open up about Andorra’s Horizon Festival.

Moving from Bulgaria to its new home in Europe’s hidden Andorra, Horizon Festival presents itself unlike any other electronic event. Nestled between France and Spain, the festival makes the most of the country’s vast slopes, bringing together snow-sports with live bands, DJs and full-on escapism.

From the 26 March until the 2 April 2017, over the course of 7 nights, fans can celebrate life at 30 parties across 2 mountains. There’s everything from a mountain top avalanche arena with Champagne ice bar to an abandoned hotel transformed into a dark fairytale.

Music wise, headliners and underground electronic heroes Floating Points lead the charge. They are joined by the likes of Motor City Drum Ensemble, AJ Tracey, KiNK, Oneman, Romare, Avalon Emerson, Craig Charles, Ben UFO B2B Midland, Yussef Kamaal, Icicle, Mumdance and many more.

With the event just around the corner, we caught up with four of the main acts to find out what they have to say about the unique Horizon Festival.

Horizon Festival 2017 — Arinsal, Andorra

Emerald

What are you most excited about with your upcoming appearance at Horizon Festival?
I am excited to play alongside so many legends! Some of which are my homies, one of which is my housemate! I’m also really excited to play out of the country. I always feel different when I’m abroad so the set is always different. I’m excited about the incredible scenery. Everywhere you look is absolutely beautiful when you’re in the mountains. I love skiing and snowboarding so I’m excited to get back on the slopes. I feel very grateful to be a part of this, you could say I’m just very excited on the whole.

What is your winter survival kit essential that you’ll be taking to Horizon Festival?
Lip balm. My lips get properly crusty in the cold, ha. Also socks, you can never have too many socks in the mountains. My mini rig speaker is extremely essential, never travel without it. Long johns!!!! I’m actually wearing them everyday in January in England right now, maybe two pairs at once might be necessary…?

What makes a ski/snow festival so different and unique to play, compared with the regular festivals of the summer?
I love winter festivals. The mountain scenery, the crisp, clean air, the SNOWBOARDING!!!!!! Dancing on tables in your ski boots. The cosiness, the stars at night in the mountains are unreal. Apres ski is a major appeal, we are talking hotel robes, slippers, sauna, steam room, hot wine. It feels a lot more like an adventure.

Jasper James

What are you most excited about with your upcoming appearance at Horizon Festival?
Their line-up is wicked so I will be trying to work my way round the different stages to check everyone out. If I get a chance I would like to give snowboarding another shot. I also heard that there is a paintball fight in the forest?!

What is your winter survival kit essential that you’ll be taking to Horizon Festival?
My winter warmer is a wee prize bottle of Buckfast Tonic Wine, warms up the insides on a chilly day.

What makes a ski/snow festival so different and unique to play, compared with the regular festivals of the summer?
I have never actually played at one, this will be my first time! People are always telling me how good they are, so I’m excited to find out for myself. Can answer this question after Horizon?

Josh – Hybrid Minds

What are you most excited about with your upcoming appearance at Horizon Festival?
I am looking forward to Horizon Festival a lot because it gives me the chance to do two things that I love. Playing music to people and snowboarding. Mountains can be a really nice break and have that holiday feeling compared to a gig in a city.

What is your winter survival kit essential that you’ll be taking to Horizon Festival?
Apart from the obviously things like a coat I would say, suncream to stop the surprise sun burn you can catch up a mountain. Also Berocca to help with the early mornings.

What makes a ski/snow festival so different and unique to play, compared with the regular festivals of the summer?
It’s brilliant having the option to do something genuinely enjoyable in the day time apart from rolling around in bed crying with a hang over. Plus, the views are just unmatchable.

Mala

What are you most excited about with your upcoming appearance at Horizon Festival?
Beautiful location. Great line up. I’m sure the sound systems will be bless! What more can I ask for.

What is your winter survival kit essential that you’ll be taking to Horizon Festival?
Winter essentials. Thermals! Need those layers to keep the cold away. I take care of myself most of then time anyway but good food, nutrients and vitamins are boosted in winter. Health up! To get that bounce in your step. A hip flask of good Bourbon Whiskey!

What makes a ski/snow festival so different and unique to play, compared with the regular festivals of the summer?
I played outside on Ski Slope in minus degree’s a few times now! To be honest, there isn’t much different apart from the weather and what people are wearing. The audience is up for it all the same! I’m very much looking forward to the festival!
