Interview: Prides tell us everything we need to know about their UK tour
You would’ve had to try preeetty hard to miss Prides on the festive circuit this summer, but in case you did, we’ve caught up with singer/keyboardist Stewart Brock to get the lowdown on their upcoming tour.

How’re you feeling about the upcoming tour?
“To say we are excited would be an understatement. We are ecstatic, euphoric, we’re RIGHT UP FOR IT! It’s going to be nice to be out on the road again, the festival season was really good to us, so it’ll be nice to get out and see how people have taken to the album. There are so many places that we’re looking forward to getting back to; Birmingham has always turned out in force, as have Sheffield. We’re playing one of our favourite venues in the country in London (KOKO), and of course, Glasgow is going to go off.”
You made a pretty unique announcement video, will you be documenting the whole tour with videos on the road? And where can we watch?!
“Haha, yeah absolutely! We’ll be posting videos to our Twitter and Facebook, or if you want to really keep on top of what we’re up to you can find us on Snapchat and Periscope. All @PRIDESband!”
For anyone that hasn’t heard your music yet, what do they need to know about you all as a band, your influences and your sound?
“Well, there’s three of us, we’re from Glasgow, and we write big synth pop tunes. There’s loads of influences that go into what we do; we all like a lot of different types of music. There’s a big ’80s influence from bands like The Cure and Tears for Fears, through to modern pop, with a sojourn into the emo and punk bands we grew up with, like Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, Postal Service. All kinds of stuff.”
And you went to uni together! How does life in halls compare to tour life now?
“Not massively dissimilar! Still pretty messy and smells like boys. I think we try to eat a little better, but we quite often fail. Being on the road is more fun than dodging lectures though.”
Go on then, which band member has the most bad habits on the road?
“I’d probably say me! I can get pretty antsy if I don’t have anything to do, so I entertain myself by annoying other people. It works.
What can you tell us about the support bands on this tour?
“We’re super chuffed to have our friends, and generally awesome band Fatherson out on tour with us. Their first album was one of my favourites of last year, and we are genuinely good pals, so it’ll be a fun couple of weeks. I have a tendency of losing my voice when I go to their shows from screaming along, so I’m going to have to watch that.”
And finally, what will be on your tour bus / dressing room playlist this November?
“Right now I’m loving some Grimes, Highasakite, Land of Talk, PVRIS, The Staves, Frida Sundemo. Or we’ll just fall into our normal tour routine of listening to Flight of the Conchords on repeat.”
