RELEASE OF THE WEEK: Deep Purple – inFinite
We kick off this week’s New Music Friday with Deep Purple’s newest project inFinite. The albums shine with tracks like Get Me Outta Here and Birds Of Prey, and the cover of Roadhouse Blues by The Doors is truly something else! With their pounding drums, soaring guitars and atmospheric keyboard we surely can’t wait to see these Hall of Famers live on UK soil in November (tickets available here). Grab the album here.
Father John Misty – Pure Comedy
The highly anticipated second studio album of American singer-songwriter Father John Misty is here. Pure Comedy is pure gold, with less of a shift in sound and more of a shift in lyrics, it’s his most dramatic work yet. The big influences of Elton John and 70s soul are undeniable and give the album its soul. Grab the record here.
Imelda May – Life. Love. Flesh. Blood.
Life. Love. Flesh. Blood. marks Imelda May’s change from romping rockabilly sounds to country soul ballads. Produced by T Bone Burnett the album offers a treat of songwriting and melodic vocals, channelling the likes of Nancy Sinatra and Candi Staton. Brian May & Kerry Ellis – Golden Days
Queen legend Brian May and West End star Kerry Ellis have today released their second studio album Golden Days. The record includes new rock arrangements of some of May and Ellis’ favourite songs of all time: a tribute to guitar virtuoso Gary Moore, two songs dedicated to their work on behalf of wild animals, and a couple of reinterpretations of songs which have already become essentials in their live act. Future Islands – The Far Field
American synthpop band Future Island are back with their fifth studio album The Far Field. After a performance on the Late Show With David Letterman propelled them into the radio ethers of every station in the US, the new album is the first to be received by the wider masses. They’ve recently described it as a driving record to be best enjoyed while turned up loud on an open highway. We’d be in for that road-trip! San Fermin – Belong
American indie rockers San Fermin have released their new record Belong today. “We’ve spent the past few years together,” Ludwig-Leone says about San Fermin, “I just realized how much of their lives we’ve devoted to being in this band. It’s overwhelming to think about.” This devotion shows on the new record. Ludwig-Leon’s classical background gives the album its maximalist sound. The Chainsmokers – Memories…Do Not Open
Their debut album is finally here! After dominating the charts and dance clubs for a little over a year, The Chainsmokers have released Memories … Do Not Open today. The record features singles Paris and Something Just Like This, and the guest appearances are pretty sweet as well : Coldplay, Jhené Aiko and Florida Georgia Line. American singer songwriter and guitarist Andrew Combs shares environmentally conscious new record Canyons Of My Mind. Blaenavon – That’s Your Lot
It’s been five years coming and now Blaenavon’s debut album is finally here! That’s Your Lot is a marker of things to come for the band, and those are great things. Having just been announced to play this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival, you now dive into an album that the Hampshire trio first announced in 2013 on the day they released their debut single Into The Night.
