Brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor have risen to fame in recent years with their unique blend of musical storytelling, presenting a modern take on traditional folk. Emerging from humble beginnings, busking in their hometown of Dublin, Ireland, the pair released their own music in 2012, breaking through with their debut EP, Battles.
Following the subsequent Cinematic Lifestyle and Osea, the band dropped their debut full-length Singing For Strangers, a reference to their busking days, in January 2015. The debut album made a healthy dent in the charts, peaking at No.3 in Ireland and at No.24 in the UK. Their sound found a wealth of fans, bordering many genre boundaries.
Feel It Again, the first new song to appear since their first album, delves further into rock and roll, with a clear melodic drive underpinned by a wide range of instrumentation. Accompanied by a suitably euphoric video, the track delivers a perfect soundtrack to those reminiscing about the recently completed festival season. The love of life is mirrored in the song’s lyrics. “Whenever it hits me I’m ready to feel it again,” Hudson Taylor sing in the song’s energetic chorus. It’s a mantra set to become even more prevalent come future live shows by the band.
Retaining their folk-inspired lyricism, the track simultaneously carries a darker theme. Hidden under the jubilant melody is an acceptance of sadness. Hudson Taylor celebrate negative emotions. “I’d rather live with the pain then die feeling nothing at all,” is the prevalent message, delivered with a notable positivity.
The catchy track is a sign of things to come, as Dublin brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor prepare to drop their second album. The release has been produced by Ryan Hadlock, whose work includes albums by US band The Lumineers and Australian singer Vance Joy.
