Preview: Here’s why Andy C is going to rule Alexandra Palace in 2016

Andy C has long been hailed as the pioneer of drum & bass, so it’s no surprise to see the producer and DJ announcing plans to headline London’s Alexandra Palace in 2016.

Ahead of the gig on Easter Thursday, we look back at Andy C’s career to prove – in case you were ever in doubt – he’s always been one of the genre’s hardest working figures.

1. He formed RAM Records in 1992 alongside Ant Miles. Specialising in drum and bass, the label fast became a driving force in the genre and released EPs by fellow D’n’B pioneers.

2. Andy C has been crucial in the success of huge acts including Chase & Status, Loadstar, Sub Focus and Wilkinson, having nurtured their talent from the early days via RAM Records.

3. The Double Drop is his signature mixing style; which sees him line up two tracks so both basslines drop at the same time. With no one doing it quite like him, this is still a sound that makes his shows unique today.

4. He’s remained loyal to turntables and will often have three set up during any set. Talking about his love of turntables in a previous interview, Andy C said: “It’s an important part of the process for me on a personal level, but I don’t do it because I feel that I’ve got to represent some sort of mentality. I do it because that is my mentality. I’ve always used turntables. I love the physicality of it.”

5. Andy C’s Valley Of The Shadows track was arguably the turning point in his early DJ career in 1993; hailed as the perfect balance between hardcore and drum & bass. He hasn’t stopped since.
