Review: Architects make easy work of headlining London’s Roundhouse
Rock fans residing in the capital may’ve found themselves spending a whole lot of time at the Roundhouse recently.
Papa Roach, Halestorm and Enter Shikari are among the acts to have headlined the iconic venue this side of the new year, all having successfully smashed out some of their best shows to date.
Architects are the latest metallers to stake claim on the venue, as they set about playing their biggest ever headline show this Saturday.
Joined by Every Time I Die, Blessthefall and Counterparts, the Brighton five-piece ended their 2015 run in style. By style, of course, we mean tons of faux snow and smoke canons. Oh yes.
As far as metal bands go, Architects have long landed on the side of nice boys done good. Tonight is no different, but there’s a fire the throat of frontman Sam Carter which provides the kind of aggression new fans can quickly latch onto.
A year on from the release of their highly-acclaimed sixth album, Lost Forever // Lost Together, means tracks like Gravedigger and Naysayer carve out the set’s natural highlights.
2012’s Alpha Omega and These Colours Don’t Run still sound just as huge – almost as though they’ve been given a new lease of life off the back of the last record. But it’s the incredible snowfall that follows an encore of The Distant Blue which has everyone reaching for their camera phones.
You can’t blame them really, as six confetti machines pump out slow-falling drops of fake snow onto the centre of the circular room.
As Carter fails to hide his tears from the sold-out crowd (sparked as he watched the crowd cause complete chaos below his feet), you’re reminded of everything that’s great about British metal right now.
It’s believable and honest, without being completely contrived; and having clearly refined their live show by touring the world, it’s here back on home turf where Architects roar loudest.
