Review: Bring Me The Horizon scale down for intimate Kingston show

It’s all go in the Bring Me The Horizon camp right now. Fresh from storming the main stage at Reading and Leeds, the Sheffield five-piece crammed their guzzling sound into a 900-capacity venue in Kingston last night.

Tickets were exclusive to fans who had pre-ordered BMTH’s fifth album, That’s The Spirit, via Banquet Records and it’s safe to say the swift hour-long set proved to be the ultimate warm-up for the band’s November UK tour.

That’s The Spirit finally drops on Friday 11 September and, so far, stands to be met with more anticipation than the time Walkers decided to bring back Beef and Onion flavour crisps. Gulp.

With the success of 2013’s Sempiternal leading the band to a headline night at The SSE Arena, Wembley, it’s no wonder everyone is foreseeing festival headline slots for BMTH in 2016.

Tonight though, Oli Sykes are co are scaling everything back for the kind of relentless metalcore that makes their fans clamber on each other’s shoulders, swim atop barriers and wail lyrics like they’re the only songs they’ve ever heard.

Their dedication doesn’t go unnoticed by the headliners either, as the band thank the crowd continuously.

The strength of new tracks – Throne, in particular – seems to transfer renewed energy into the likes of 2008’s Chelsea Smile, while setlist staples Sleepwalking, The House of Wolves and Blessed With A Curse are presented with the fury of an entire army.

It’s the volume at which the room belts out the lyrics to Drown though, that suggests just how unstoppable Bring Me The Horizon stand to be from here on out.

Now imagine all this, amplified in venues as big as Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena and London’s Alexandra Palace. Roll on November.

Neck Deep and PVRIS join BMTH on tour in the UK this November, get tickets now at Ticketmaster.co.uk.
