Review: Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes tear up London’s KOKO

On Thursday night Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes played an unforgettable show at KOKO.

As part of their Modern Ruins UK tour, Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes played the final show of the run in Camden on Thursday and we went to check it out. Get a visual picture of the show with photos up on the blog here.

It comes as no surprise that with a following as strong as Frank Carter’s, the venue is sold out and packed to the rim with fans. With their second album Modern Ruin just released earlier this year, the band exude enough energy tonight to power Camden Town for a week straight. Snake Eyes opens the set and paves the way for what’s to come; an intense and huge punk rock sound. Tracks like Juggernaut, Jackals and the goosebump-inducing Neon Rust bring the audience to a boil.

He opens the encore with a dedication to the most important woman in his life – his beloved dog Bluebelle. With just an acoustic guitar and his heart on his sleeve, Frank Carter leads us into an extra five songs we won’t soon forget with Lullaby, Devil Inside Me and Paradise.

For the final track, I Hate You from the band’s debut album Blossoms, Frank Carter leaps into the crowd and just minutes later is literally walking on the hands of his fans. Not only is it crowd participation at its best, but it once again shows the close relationship the frontman has with his audience. And needless to say, the entire room is shouting along to the song picking apart the current political leadership.

Speaking of crowd surfing; it is definitely more of a male past time that a female, but tonight Frank Carter made sure the girls got their turn as well with a women-only crowd surf. Accompanied by a truly inspiring speech about respecting women at gigs and beyond as equals. Love for the punk rocker only grows more as he continuously thanks all the staff in the venue for their hard work, including security, bar staff and box office. It doesn’t get to feel much more homely than this show tonight.

And as the night progresses, Frank lets us in on a secret (ok, not so secret anymore) – there’ll be a UK tour coming up in December! What better time to announce a new tour to a devoted fanbase than at the last date of run of shows, all sold out.

All details about their newly announced December tour and how to get tickets can be found here.
