Robert Plant will be touring the UK this winter
He'll be releasing his new album, Carry Fire, on the 13 October 2017.
Former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant has announced a UK headline tour in support of his forthcoming new album Carry Fire. The record will be his eleventh solo album, and first full-length release of new music since 2014’s lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar. Plant took on production duties at Top Cat Studio in Wiltshire.
As with his previous releases, the singer has been accompanied by accomplished musicians The Sensational Space Shifters, including John Baggott on keyboards, moog, loops, percussion, drums, brass arrangements, t’bal, snare drum, slide guitar, piano, electric piano, and bendir. Justin Adams takes on the guitar, acoustic guitars, oud, E-bow quartet, percussion, snare drum, and tambourine. Dave Smith on bendir, tamourine, djemebe, drum kit, and Liam “Skin” Tyson on dobro, guitar, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, and twelve string.
The diverse instrumentation of the band goes some way to showcase the exciting music being generated by Robert Plant. His musical career has seen Plant team up with a venerable roster of artists, some of which feature as guests on his new album. Robert Plant and the Space Shifters team up with the likes of founding member of The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde, Albanian cellist Redi Hasa, and violinist Seth Lakeman, who will also join Plant on tour.
“It’s about intention, I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the trawl and incentive to create new work,” Plant says of his new record. “I must mix old with new. Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.”
Robert Plant founded Led Zeppelin in 1968, joined by guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. They rose to fame in the 70s with iconic songs such as Good Times Bad Times and Whole Lotta Love, the latter which celebrated a resurgence in the mid-00s and has dominated radio airwaves for decades.
Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 following the death of Bonham. They have since reformed for a handful of reunion concerts, not least in 2007 when Bonham’s son Jason stepped into his father’s role.
As a solo artist, Plant released his first record in 1982, revealing Pictures At Eleven. He took a break from recording between 1993 and 2002’s Dreamland, having released four albums since the turn of the century.
Robert will be playing 15 dates in UK and Ireland in support of his eleven song record and new music. The live shows will see him accompanied by the Sensational Space Shifters and Seth Lakeman, who appears on three tracks on Carry Fire.
The record is due for release on the 13 October 2017.
