Playlist: What Arcade Fire will bring to Isle Of Wight Festival

As Arcade Fire prepare to headline Isle of Wight Festival next year, we look back through their beautiful and mesmerising back-catalogue.

Picture the scene: The sun is setting over the stunning Isle Of Wight scenery as Arcade Fire arrive on the main stage, offering the perfect soundtrack to the end of a music-filled day. Drawing from their four seminal albums, the ensemble’s expansive sounds mirror the turn from day to night. Drinks in hand, of course.

With their only UK festival appearance of 2017 confirmed for IOW, it’s destined to be something truly special. And with songs like these ones, we’d put money on it.

Rebellion (Lies)

This track really should find itself on the band’s Isle Of Wight Festival setlist. If you’re already picturing the scene, add this mid-00s cool indie club staple to reach peak happiness.

Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)

Another track from Arcade Fire’s fantastic debut, Neightborhood #1 (Tunnels) is a little more sombre but still packs their characteristically understated punch.

Wake Up

Perhaps Arcade Fire’s biggest singalong moment, if this one drops at Isle Of Wight, voices will be raised high come the now iconic refrain.

No Cars Go

Taken from their far from difficult second album Neon Bible, No Cars Go confirmed that Arcade Fire were still on form three years after their debut.

Keep The Car Running
Not just the masters of the macabre, this comparably short and sharp number showcases Arcade Fire’s urgency, as suggested in the song’s title.

Ready To Start
Their 2010 album The Suburbs took their expansive sound to a whole new level, although still presented some immediate hits. Ready To Start is right up there with the best of them. This clip also shows just how great they are live.

The Suburbs

…That’s not to say that their more stripped back songs aren’t brilliant too. The Suburbs took a slight detour from their sound to date, but still showcased the distinctive Arcade Fire vibe.

Reflektor
Arcade Fire’s most recent album, Reflektor is their most experimental to date. Not least the epic near eight minute title-track.

We Exist
With its poignant artistic video, We Exist is a celebration of the individual. The video moves towards a spine-tingling live finale, one that will undoubtedly be mirrored at Isle Of Wight.
