Here’s what makes Six Day London so unique
With Six Day London taking place in October, here are some interesting facts about previous events.
Following news that Mark Cavendish will be returning to the event this summer, check out these stats about Six Day’s gone by.
The first event took place in 1878 at the Agricultural Hall in Islington, London. It has since grown into the sporting beast fans witnessed last year, with Six Day Series events in the UK’s capital, as well as Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen. The 2016/17 season final took place on the 17 March 2017 in Mallorca, hosting the top twelve teams.
The London event welcomed a huge amount of visitors, as well as some of the biggest names in cycling; not least Cavendish and Sir Bradley Wiggins.
But it’s not all about the cycling. The 36,000 visitors drank around 40,000 beers between them, all the while witnessing top-class entertainment on and off the track. One track-centre DJ provided an energetic soundtrack to all the events.
This year’s Six Day London will take place from the 24 – 29 October 2017 at Lee Valley Velopark on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. Each day mixes competitive cycling with a celebratory atmosphere, from live DJs to food, drink and entertainment.
