Katy Perry and Arctic Monkeys for the Brit Awards 2014

Arctic Monkeys are set open the Brit Awards 2014 with their first ever live performance at the ceremony.

US pop star Katy Perry has also been confirmed for the awards ceremony, which will be broadcast live by ITV next February.

Katy Perry won the award for Best International Female in 2009, and the Arctic Monkeys have won several Brit Awards over the years, including Best British Breakthrough, Best British Album and Best British Group for two consecutive years in 2007 and 2008.

Comedian and actor James Corden will present the show from the O2 in London for his fifth and final time.

Perry said of her appearance: “The Brits has always showcased the music that I love and am influenced by. It’s an honour to play at such a prestigious event where musicality shines at its brightest.”

Brit Awards chairman Christian Tattersfield said: “We are extremely ambitious for the 2014 show, showcasing global superstars and celebrating the incredible success of British music.

“We are going to pull out all the stops to make this the biggest and most exciting Brits ever.”

The Brit Awards 2014 take place on February 18 at the O2 Arena, London.
