Afropunk returns to London from the 22 – 23 July 2017.
Celebrated for its incredible carnival atmosphere, Afropunk is set to return to the UK for their 2017 festival at London’s groundbreaking Printworks.
Defining culture in the world of music for the last 14 years, Afropunk celebrates diversity across the globe. The collective already celebrates events in New York, Atlanta, Johannesburg and Paris, having made its inaugural appearance in London at Alexandra Palace last year.
This year sees it move to the fitting Printworks, a maze of corridors and rooms which retain the original printing machinery and industrial features. It’s the perfect location for the Afropunk party.
Afropunk is this year celebrating We The People, a phrase that opens both the American and South African constitutions. According to organisers, the event is “less concerned with genres and pigeonholes than the strength and unity of otherness.”
This attitude has fostered an eclectic bill. With a very special guest still to be announced, the London event will welcome Lianne La Havas, Nao, Thundercat, Danny Prown, Jme, Willow Smith, The Heavy, Corinne Bailey Rae, Saul Williams, Jazzie B, Little Simz, Sadia Rose, Nojey Radical, Connie Constance, SATE, Big Freedia, the OBGMs, Mahalia and Black Orchid.
They’ll also be appearances from DJs Jazz Refreshed, Blacktronica, Fam, Born & Bred, Hannah Faith, Clara Amfo, Jamz Supernova, and gal-dem.
All will come together in a cultural melting pot at the stunning London venue. It’s a real celebration of people and humanity.
