Coming soon – Shappi Khorsandi: Because I’m Shappi

Stand-up comedian, best selling author and TV personality Shappi Khorsandi is set for a 12-night run at London’s Soho theatre.

The Soho residency follows on from her successful appearance at 2014’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and will run from 17-29 November.

Shappi is one of the fastest rising comedians on the circuit, and along with the likes of Miranda Hart and Sarah Millican, is responsible for the increasing popularity of female comedians in the UK.

According to Ticketmaster’s latest report, State of Play: Comedy UK, shows by female comedians now account for 14% of all comedy events sold, as opposed to just 2% in 2009.

Commenting on the report, Shappi said: “It’s great to see the surge in female comedians, stamping out the prejudice. We have still further to go though. I’d like to see more female comics enjoying the dominance that men do on the bigger stages.

“Perhaps we are not capturing the public’s imagination in the same way, but it is all changing for the better and we are well on the way to enjoying equal success with our comedy brothers.”

As well as being a stand-up comedian, Iranian born Shappi has notched up numerous high-profile television appearances including MasterChef 2013, Live At The Apollo, Channel 4’s Comedy Gala At The O2, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and her own Comedy Store Special for Comedy Central.

Shappi is also the best selling author of ‘A Beginners Guide to Acting English’ by Bloomsbury out now in paperback.

Her 12-night residency at London’s Soho theatre runs from 17-29 November and tickets are available here.
