Alex Owumi speaks of leading London Lions to BBL Play-Off glory

The British Basketball Play Off Finals take place on Sunday 14 May 2017 in London.

Alex Owumi has his sights set on finishing the season in style at The O2 Arena as he prepares to lead London Lions to Play-Offs glory.

The Lions forward is in his fifth season in the BBL and is hoping to experience that winning feeling inside the capital’s iconic building.

“It will be great to play at The O2 this upcoming May, but the more important thing would be to come out with a victory,” he says. “The O2 is a great venue and just from attending the NBA London games there it seems like a special place where the fans get involved.”

Owumi is a former Play-Off winner with Worcester Wolves in 2014 when he held the trophy aloft as captain at Wembley Arena before the finale switch to North Greenwich.

The BBL saw a record crowd of nearly 15,000 packed inside The O2 for the 2015 Final when the Lions lost out to Newcastle Eagles.

And, Owumi believes another large attendance will continue to give the league a boost.

“A crowd of over 15,000 would be amazing for the BBL,” he declares. “I think it brings great awareness to basketball here in the U.K. and can see the growth of the league. The BBL has grown a lot since I’ve been in the league and we are all looking forward to the future.”
