Wimbledon and Champions Tennis: Watch the greatest tennis players on the grandest stages
It’s that time of year again: when the nation converges to drink lashings of Pimms, gorge ourselves on strawberries and cream, and try to spot the crème de la crème in the Royal Box – that’s right folks, Wimbledon is go!
Considered by many fans and players alike as the greatest Grand Slam of them all, Wimbledon runs until 10 July and sees in the region of 500,000 spectators coming through the turnstiles of The All England Club, SW19 – one of sport’s most famous postcodes – over the 13 days of competition. The nation will be once again gripped by Murray Mania as hordes of fans converge on Henman Hill to cheer the greatest tennis players on every day of the tournament.
This is the title that all the players want. What will happen now last year’s champion Djokovic is out of the race? Can Roger Federer win his first Grand Slam since 2012? Can Serena Williams claim her seventh title?
But the brilliance of Grand Slam tennis doesn’t finish when Wimbledon wraps up in a fortnight’s time. Far from it, in fact, and Champions Tennis – the season-ending finale to the ATP Champions Tour – will serve up some top-class action at the Royal Albert Hall from 30 November until 4 December.
Featuring former Grand Slam champions, World No.1s and national icons, Champions Tennis will see stars of the court compete in one of London’s most famed and iconic venues. Having previously welcomed a host of the sport’s biggest names and personalities – including John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, Pat Rafter, Goran Ivanisevic and Andy Roddick – to play competitively in both singles and entertaining doubles matches, the five-day tournament is sure to be a spectacle again this year.
Already confirmed for 2016 already are Tim Henman, Pat Rafter, John McEnroe, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Mansour Bahrami, with more names still to be announced.
What’s more, 2016 marks Champions Tennis’ 20th year, so the celebrations are going to be bigger than ever! There’s likely to be fun for the whole family, too, with Kids Day confirmed for Saturday 3 December from 13:00, with loads of activities set to get youngsters engaged with the sport.
