As we gear up to celebrate Roald Dahl Day (commemorating what would have been the illustrious author’s 100th birthday), we figured there’s no better time to remind you about this incredible show. Here’s everything you need to know…

What’s it about?

Matilda the Musical tells the story of a magical young schoolgirl who dreams of escaping the life she leads as the butt of all her nasty parents’ jokes, schemes and plotting. Through her love of books and literature, she imagines a better life for herself – but her dreams could be crushed by the villainous Miss Trunchbull, who rules the school with an iron fist, unless Matilda can unlock the secret of her powers and teach the headmistress a lesson.

26-mat

Inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl and winner of over 70 major international awards (including 15 for Best Musical), Matilda continues to delight audiences in London, Australia, Toronto on Broadway and on tour around the USA.

What else can we expect?

Written by Dennis Kelly and composer and lyricist Tim Minchin, Matilda shines with an array of amazing musical numbers, ingenious staging and a brilliant story.

Miss Trunchbull in particular is a sight that has to be seen to be believed – currently portrayed with gusto by the incredible Craige Els – while the sheer energy and magnificence of the four girls who play Matilda on consecutive nights is simply infectious.

The show also takes gleeful pleasure in the dark, twisted narrative of Matilda’s journey, making it the perfect show for families – there’s a lesson that sometimes it pays to be a little bit naughty.
