Motown the Musical celebrates its first birthday in London – and extends to February 2018

Celebrating its first anniversary in the West End, Motown the Musical has released 200,000 further tickets as it extends its booking period until next February.

The hit show – featuring over 50 Motown tracks – tells the story of the first 25 years of the iconic record label, which sees founder Berry Gordy borrow $800 from his family to launch the careers of some of the most icons artists in recording history.

Cast members star as icons such as Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Jackie Wilson, Martha Reeves and many more, and the show uncovers the true story of the legendary label that changed music history and created the soundtrack of a generation.

The Tony-nominated production first hit Broadway in 2013, with Motown founder Berry Gordy and legendary artists Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Mary Wilson, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder all attending opening night.

The show later began its West End run in February 2016 with Gordy, Robinson and Wilson once again supporting the show on opening night.  Subsequently, The Four Tops and Martha Reeves have also visited the production in London. The first US National Tour opened to critical acclaim in Spring 2014 in Chicago and continues to play to packed houses across America.

Including songs such as Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’ll Be There, Dancing in the Street, Stop! In The Name Of Love, My Girl and I Heard It through the Grapevine, the jam-packed show guaranteed to get audiences on their feet.

The news comes alongside changes to the cast from the 7 March 2017. Cedric Neal will portray Berry Gordy with Lucy St. Louis as Diana Ross, Obioma Ugoala as Smokey Robinson and Sifiso Mazibuko as Marvin Gaye. The show also boasts a full ensemble cast.

After an amazing first year in the West End, and with 200,000 tickets now on sale, Motown the Musical is now booking at the Shaftesbury Theatre until 24 February 2018.
