Interview: Beverley Knight on performing Stevie Wonder

The soul singer takes on Stevie Wonder's biggest hits for Friday Night Is Music Night.

Beverley Knight will be celebrating the songs of Stevie Wonder on tour throughout October 2019. Following a very special secret London show – offering a teaser of the musical celebration come – the Midlands-raised singer took time out to chat about her love of the soul icon, and just what fans can expect when she hits the road.

The 10-date tour will see the singer collaborate with the Leo Green Orchestra and kicks off in Brighton on 1 October 2019, before heading to Southend, Sheffield, Oxford, London, Gateshead, Manchester, Bath, Bournemouth and Birmingham.

The news follows the amazing response Knight received for her performance for BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night Is Music Night series at London’s Palladium at the end of last year.

One of the most recognisable names in British soul music, Beverly Knight first broke through in 1995 with her debut record The B-Funk. Since her debut, the singer has gone onto release seven more studio albums and no less than 28 singles.

Some of Knight’s most well-known tracks include Made It Back, Greatest Day, Shoulda Woulda Coulda and Come as You Are.

Friday Night Is Music Night launched in 1953, televised for the very first time on BBC Four in 2005.

The BBC Radio 2 show blends orchestral music with a mixture of contemporary music, songs from musicals and films, opera and more. Each week delivers on a set theme, revealed on the night.

Stevie Wonder is a truly global music icon. In a career which has spanned six decades, the musician has released 23 studio albums and has been the recipient of 25 Grammy Awards.

One of the biggest selling recording artists of all time, some of Stevie’s most well-known tracks include Isn’t She Lovely, I Just Called To Say I Love You, Higher Ground, Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours and Superstition. 

Beverley Knight will be teaming up with the Leo Green Orchestra, to perform some of Stevie Wonder’s biggest hits on tour this autumn.
