David Gray announces huge UK shows

He'll be celebrating 20 years of White Ladder.

David Gray has announced a 12-date UK and mainland Europe tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of his acclaimed White Ladder album.

The shows will see Gray joined by the original band members using the original equipment, to perform the record in full alongside a set of the folk singer’s greatest hits.

The tour will see Gray and his band take to arenas in Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bournemouth, London, Leeds, Birmingham, Belfast and Dublin, kicking off on 20 March 2020.

Re-released on 1 May 2000 through ATO Records, the album includes David Gray’s iconic singles This Year’s Love, Babylon, Please Forgive Me, and Sail Away.

His fourth studio album, it propelled Gray into the mainstream conscious following years of struggling against the tide. First released through his own label, it took over two years for the record to reach the No.1 spot on the official UK album charts, ultimately going on to spend three years in the top 100.

Gray has since been labeled as a pioneer of the UK acoustic movement that paved the way for the likes of global superstar Ed Sheeran. Sheeran himself has been known to perform his own version of This Year’s Love live.

White Ladder forms one of 11 studio albums Gray has released during his almost-three decade long career, most recently unveiling Gold In A Brass Age earlier in 2019.

“What happened with White Ladder involved more than music,” David Gray says of the 20th anniversary. “It was a sort of heart and soul moment of total surrender for everybody involved, for me and the audience. That was it. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

The news comes alongside the reveal of rare track Over My Head, originally featured as a b-side on the single releases of Babylon and This Year’s Love.
