Eric Clapton announced for BST Hyde Park show

He'll be joined by Santana, Steve Winwood, Gary Clark Jr. and more.

Eric Clapton has been confirmed as the next headlined at British Summer Time Hyde Park. The standalone show in the heart of London will see the guitar legend joined by Santana, Steve Winwood, Gary Clark Jr. and more to be announced.

Clapton is set to play a very special concert on the 8 July 2018, continuing a run of all-time greats taking to the stage which last year saw the late Tom Petty delight the crowd.

It’s also not the guitarist’s first time playing Hyde Park, having performed there with Blind Faith on the 7 June 1969 alongside band mates Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood and Rick Grech to a 120,000 strong audience.

Eric Clapton has since played the Royal Park in 1996, again in 2008, and over 200 times at the nearby Royal Albert Hall.

“I have happy memories of performing in Hyde Park in the past,” says Eric, “and I’m really looking forward to playing there again – the whole atmosphere is very special.”

He joins a rank that also includes previous British Summer Time Hyde Park headliners The Rolling Stones, Carole King, Stevie Wonder and more, since the series of headline shows first launched in 2013.

The English rock and blues guitarist first appeared on the scene as a member of The Yardbirds, before joining John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers in 1965. By the late ’60s Clapton has established himself as one of the world’s greatest guitarists.

Eric Clapton went on to join Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce in Cream, a band which would ultimately see Clapton become a global household name.

As well as Blind Faith, Clapton toured with a handful of bands before launching his successful solo career. As a member of Derek and the Dominos, Clapton achieved chart success with the iconic Layla.

He released his solo debut self-titled album in 1970, before going on to release 19 more to date. Clapton most recently released I Still Do in 2016.

He has also released a huge number of live albums, collaborative albums, and has teamed up with some other huge names over his lengthy career.

His back-catalogue includes timeless classics such as I Shot The Sheriff and Wonderful Tonight.

Eric Clapton will headline a concert at British Summer Time Hyde Park on the 8 July 2018. He is the fourth headline act to be announced for the standalone summer shows, joining the already announced Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters on the 6 July, Michael Buble on the 13 July, and Bruno Mars on the 14 July.
