Festival preview: Six things not to miss at Isle of Wight 2016

Isle of Wight festival is less than two weeks away and we take a look at what’s in store for you this year with headliners The Who, Queen + Adam Lambert, Stereophonics and Faithless.

Between 9 – 12 June the legendary Isle of Wight festival will see thousands of festival lovers make their way south for one of Britain’s best-loved music festivals.

1. Field of Dreams

As a footballing nation it can be tricky to combine festivals and big football events such as this year’s Euro 2016. But do not despair – Isle of Wight has got you covered. BT Sports Field of Dreams will be screening world class footballing action live from Paris. What’s more, when the football fun is over you can catch movies like Blood Orange or David Bowie’s 2004 Isle Of Wight performance.

2. Cirque De La Quirk

Step into a worry-free world of nonsensical live body painting, chilled-out bean bag areas, silly games and, not to forget, the main stage! Cirque de La Quirk will have musical treats along with circus performers. What’s more – the tent will be hosting a very English tea party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with a bit of electro swing.

3. Kidzone

Isle of Wight is a weekend for the whole family – they even have a dedicated Kidzone! Their stage will feature Channel 5’s popular Milkshake along with Jen and Derek, to perform their great Bop in the Park show. Also on the bill for the little ones is physical theatre from stunt clown Wolly, magic with Huxley and a Kids Talent Show. Arts and crafts, circus workshops, dress up tents, storytelling and so much more to fill the whole weekend with fun.

4. Upcoming talent with Jack Rocks

Returning this year will be Jack Daniels-sponsored new talent stage Jack Rocks with This Feeling. Here you can check out the latest up and coming bands, and maybe even discover a new favourite. Among the listed bands are Bright Young People, The Costellos, Little Comets, The Rising, Same Streets, Carnivals, Moonlight Zoo and loads more.

5. Celebrating 40 years of punk

Isle of Wight Festival is looking back on 40 years of punk with Iggy Pop, Adam Ant, The Damned, Buzzcocks, The Godfathers and The Sex Pissed Dolls added to the line-up. 1976 is generally seen as the year punk was born as The Sex Pistols signed to EMI records. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss.

6. The line-up

Did you really think we weren’t going to talk about the huuuge line-up Isle of Wight has in store this year? Just look at the headliners: legendary British rockers The Who, Adam Lambert teams up with Queen for an unforgettable performance, Stereophonics are back and better than ever, AND Faithless will have you dancing all night long. On top of that, you can catch bands like Blossoms, The Carnabys, The Coors, The Cribs, Everything Everything, Jess Glynne, The Kills, Mike & The Mechanics, Ocean Colour Scene, Status Quo, Sunset Sons and so many more.
