Interview: Steve Angello ahead of Steel Yard
The renowned DJ will be appearing in Liverpool alongside Martin Garrix.
Steve Angello will be taking to the decks at Steel Yard on Saturday 25 November 2017 alongside fellow DJs and producers Martin Garrix, Sigma and Sigala.
Steve Angello, also one third of Swedish House Mafia, has been releasing tracks since 2003, making dents in the mainstream charts with the likes of Show Me Love, Wasted Love and Baby When The Light with David Guetta.
As a member of Swedish House Mafia, joined by Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell, Steve Angello hit the No.1 spot in the official UK singles chart with Don’t You Worry Child, as well as topping the countdown in his native Sweden.
Steve Angello’s success both commercially and in the electronic scene has cemented his status as a DJ, producer, remixer and label owner. He founded Size Records in 2003, representing a huge roster of artists. Names signed to Size Records since 2003 include Teisto, Afrojack, Laidback Luke and Avicii.
We caught up with Steve Angello ahead of Steel Yard on the 25 November to find out more about playing the festival circuit, and the wider influence of the Swedish electronic scene.

Sweden are leading the way in the electronic music scene, with you at the forefront! What is it about Swedish music culture that has created so many talented music artists?
I think it’s a mixture of safety and darkness to be honest. We spend a lot of time indoors during the winter, so it’s very easy for kids to start messing around with computers, instruments or other crafts, and with the social security of our country, many of us have food on our tables and roofs over our heads so talented people are able to pursue their goals rather than find work for survival. We generally have nothing to worry about which plays a big factor.
You’re well-established on the festival circuit. Which are your favourite UK festivals to play and why?
I’ve performed in the UK since end of the 90´s. I started touring there when I was about 17 or 18 and it has always had one of the best crowds in the world! Cream (fields) are definitely leading the way with electronic music, but there are also lots of amazing festivals in the country!
How has the festival scene changed since you’ve been playing live shows?
Wow, I think lots! When I started out, we were happy we had 3 Technics 1210 turntables and a mixer. Now, I have more firepower than the Swedish army.
What can fans expect from your set at Steel Yard Liverpool?
We´ll have a great time. I’ll go through my last album, the new upcoming album, and some classics!
