HBO series Game Of Thrones has taken the world by storm since premiering in 2011. Adapting George R R Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire, the TV series tells the twisted tale of power, as the likes of the Lannister and Stark families battle for their right to the crown, and the right to reign over Westeros. Each episode brings the fantastical story to life, following the lives of favourite characters such as Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister as they take on family feuds, scandal, dragons and much more evil.

With the enthralling story at the centre, Game Of Thrones is further underpinned by quality actors, mesmerising scenes and spellbinding music. The latter is thanks to composer Ramin Djawadi, whose thunderous score provides the backdrop to love, death and war. His swirling compositions sway from the understated to the cataclysmic, echoing the ebb and flow of the ever surprising plot.

As fans eagerly await the final season, Djawadi is taking the Game Of Thrones Live Concert Experience on the road. Having already toured across the UK and into mainland Europe, the visual and musical spectacular prepares to arrive on UK shores.

We caught up with the man himself ahead of his Paris show to find out more about scoring Game Of Thrones, and bringing the show’s iconic music directly to the fans. Djawadi expressed his excitement for the final season, and his dedication to keeping the unfolding events secret. Yes, his friends regularly ask what’s going to happen next, but as he explains the show’s charm in part lies in witnessing the action alongside the rest of the world. Djawadi is sent each episode in advance, and adds his unquestionably magic touch.

Ramin Djawadi talks Game Of Thrones Live Concert Experience

As the Game Of Thrones Live Concert Experience opens in the UK, here’s what we learned from the show.

The music is simply phenomenal

The tour carries a handful of soloists, vocalists and Ramin Djawadi. The rest of the sound is provided by a local full orchestra. Together they deliver truly spectacular compositions. It brings the music of the show to life, inviting the use of atypical instruments and sounds. With clips from episodes of the HBO series projected on a massive screen behind the musicians, each musical moment is incredibly carefully considered. As with the TV show, the live experience glides from the delicate to the powerful, all the while remaining simply sublime.

It’s not just about the music

Although the full orchestra take centre stage, led by a continuously gleaming Ramin Djawadi, the producers make full use of the arena. There’s pyrotechnics, flying violinists and a particularly explosive climax that’s destined to leave audiences spellbound.

A celebration of character

It’s not surprise that the majority of the audience are Game Of Thrones aficionados, and they really do let their voices be heard. Fans hum along to recognisable melodies, and react in awe to the on-screen action. But much of the event’s charm is in the reaction to individual characters. Boos and hisses echo around the arena as Joffrey Baratheon appears on the screen, while gleeful cheers reverberate at the sight of Arya Stark.

Not just for the diehards

The Game Of Thrones Live Concert Experience isn’t just limited to those already on board with the TV show. The music and production is enough for any live event lover, yet above that it provides an insight into just how Game Of Thrones has become an institution. For those who have not yet seen the show, the Live Concert Experience is destined to ignite the dragon fire.
