First ever Peaky Blinders Festival comes to Birmingham

The two-day celebration of the hit TV show takes over Digbeth in September.

Organisers have announced that the first-ever The Legitimate Peaky Blinders Festival will take place later this year.

Bringing together immersive theatre, live music and fashion inspired by the hit series, the festival will take over Digbeth, Birmingham on 14 – 15 September 2019.

The event will see the historic area of Central Birmingham transformed, bringing the world of Peaky Blinders to life with its historic streets, warehouses and factories.

The celebration has been co-curated by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders. Knight will also be holding a live Q&A over the weekend, which will feature some of the show’s stars.

There will be five live music stage at the festival. Artists confirmed to perform so far include Primal Scream, Anna Calvi, Slaves, Mike Skinner (DJ Set) and Nadine Shah, with more to be confirmed soon.

David Beckham’s fashion line Kent and Curween will be present at the festival, with the company’s Creative Director Daniel Kearns hosting a conversion on how to achieve ‘The Peaky Look’.

There will also be live recreations of Peaky Blinders scenes featuring over 200 actors, a cinema, a museum, food and drink offerings, poetry and lots more.

Rambert, the contemporary dance company, will be performing a specially commissioned performance at the festival, choreographed by artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer.

Set in post World War 1 Birmingham, gritty drama Peaky Blinders follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family, lead by Tommy Shelby, who is portrayed by Cillian Murphy.

A TV phenomenon, series four of Peaky Blinders was BBC Two’s biggest drama series of the year, and the show has won multiple BAFTA Awards.

The fifth series of the show is set to air imminently. With a new home on BBC One, the brand new series premiered at an exclusive event in Birmingham in July, with over 83,000 fans applying for tickets to attend. Watch the trailer for the new series below:
