This weekend sees the vibrant Afropunk phenomenon descent on England’s capital, taking over the Printworks from Saturday 22 until Sunday 23 July 2017. Across both days, the festival invites free-spirited artists from a wealth of genres, all brought together under the notion of cultural empowerment.
This year’s London festival is headlined by The Internet and Lianne La Havas, already an indication of the wide musical reach. As well as urban sounds, it also celebrates the occasional dose of punk, not least by Toronto based four-piece The OBGMs.
Gearing up for their debut album release, the noisy upstarts have already shared stages with a variety of artists including Bad Brains, Pusha T, Glassjaw, Thee Oh Sees, and Saul Williams.
Encapsulating part of that Afropunk spirit, we asked The OBGMs to give us five tracks they think do just the same.
The OBGMs – Pill
Ho99o9 – City Rejects
Saul Williams – List Of Demands
SATE – Try
Baby Baby – Here
