Review: Bury Tomorrow mean business at intimate Black Heart show

There’s something about Bury Tomorrow playing teeny-tiny metal shows that just seems to make sense to the British metalcore mob.

Tonight is their turn to headline the London stop on Dr. Martens’ Stand For Something Tour 2015 at Camden’s Black Heart, and it’s a sweaty affair from the start.

Notttingham’s Heck are up first; rattling their concoction of metal, mathcore and mayhem in the faces of anyone who dares to get close enough. “We don’t bite,” barks frontman Matt Reynolds, and it’s hardly surprising that few of the 70-some punters believe him. It’s noisy, chaotic and a whole lot of fun as always.

Bury Tomorrow, too, have a look of determination about them as they take to the stage – which, by the way, is also tiny.

Frontman Dani Winter-Bates roars load enough to disrupt the neighbouring gigs (Bring Me The Horizon at Alexandra Palace, no less), while fearlessly conducting a crowd that’s packed with only the most devoted fans. Tonight’s show sold out in minutes and as the floorboards literally shake under the weight of the mosh pit, everyone’s here to get involved.

It’s testament to the series of Stand For Something shows that bands as powerful as Bury Tomorrow are able to downsize and let loose in a venue this intimate. Lonely The Brave, The Wytches, Palma Violets and Dutch Uncles all caused a similar ruckus during the 2015 tour and it’s safe to say anyone who managed to secure a ticket, won’t be forgetting these gigs in a hurry.
