Review: ROAM lead a pop-punk party in London

Rising South East pop-punks ROAM lead an evening of pop-punk perfection from all corners of the globe.

Tonight’s bill presents an eclectic cross-section of the often surprisingly broad pop-punk genre. From the UK’s gruff grunge infused opener Weatherstate to their slightly cleaner cut counterparts and headliners ROAM, it’s a showcase of unrelenting energy. As each of the four acts explode on stage, the reaction by the fired up crowd is tenfold.

With bodies flying into the enthusiastic pit, each band effortlessly stamps their own unique mark on the genre. Australian trio Columbus – busy cementing their “ones to watch” status – balance a notable level of force with hook driven melodies, building on the opener’s grit.

Canadian four-piece Like Pacific offer a more polished take, their delivery equally as energetic and their lyrical content far-reaching. It proves the perfect step between the understated ferocity of their precursors and the increasing shine of ROAM, who tonight are on top form.

Their musical ability and dynamic stage-presence has dramatically improved throughout 2016, ultimately emerging as one of the UK’s undeniable shining stars. The impact on their increasing fan-base is immediately evident, the crowd’s voices raised as vocalist Alex Costello bounds around the Underworld’s small stage.

As sweat-soaked circle pits bring their set to an end, tonight has been nothing short of a varied pop-punk masterclass, with all proving their ability to push their careers even further.

ROAM will be supporting Lower Than Atlantis on their UK tour. Tickets are available now through Ticketmaster.co.uk.
