Sam Fender announces brand new 2019 UK tour dates

It will be the musician's biggest tour to date.

BRITs Critics’ Choice winner Sam Fender has announced a brand new headline tour, kicking off in November 2019.

The mammoth 17 date run will include two hometown shows in Newcastle, as well as his biggest headline show to date at the iconic O2 Academy Brixton, London.

The news comes as the musician kicked off his spring headline tour last night with a show at the O2 Ritz Manchester. All dates of the current tour are sold out.

Sam is currently gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated debut album Hypersonic Missile, due to drop on 9 August 2019 via Polydor Records.

The album will feature Sam’s current single Play God, which the singer first released independently earlier in his career. The track features ambitious guitar melodies coupled with socially engaged lyrics. The song was recorded in Fender’s hometown of North Shields with longtime collaborator and friend Bramwell Bronte.

Talking about the song, Sam says: “Play God is set in an alternate dystopian reality that shares similarities with our own world. I wrote it a couple of years ago where there were a lot of big changes happening in both the UK and the States, I had just entered my twenties, I was anxious about the future of the world and its leaders, and it didn’t help that I’d just read George Orwell’s 1984 at the time. As you can imagine I was pretty paranoid!”

It’s been a whirlwind 18 months for the North Sheilds musician. The singer-songwriter has inked a record deal, released a slew of singles that have sent the streaming counters spinning and played shows all around the globe. Finishing off a hectic 2018, Sam was awarded the highly prestigious BRITSs Critics’ Choice Award, which has been previously won by the likes of Adele, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding and Florence + the Machine.

The singer-songwriter has also received extensive support from the likes of Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1 and has supported artists on tour such as Catfish and the Bottlemen, Ben Howard, Daughter and George Ezra.

Sam Fender will spend most of the summer performing at festivals across Europe, before releasing his debut album in August and then returning to the UK for a run of headline shows in November.
