Sounds of the City is coming to Manchester

The National, Kylie, Elbow and more will play Castlefield Bowl.

Sounds of the City returns to Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl in July 2019, bringing some of the biggest names in pop and indie to the stage.

The line-up sees headline performances by the The Wombats, Elbow, The National, Kylie Minogue, The Kooks and Hacienda Classical, each joined by special guests.

The Wombats will open the event on Saturday 6 July 2019, following the release of their most recent full-length Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life. The band exploded onto the scene eleven years ago with their platinum selling debut A Guide To Live, Loss and Desperation.

Elbow take to Castlefield Bowl on Tuesday 9 July 2019, following their huge arena tour earlier this year. With seven albums to their name, the band’s accolades include three Ivor Novello Awards, a Mercury Music Prize and a BRIT award.

The National return to Manchester following two headline shows at the city’s O2 Apollo in 2017. They’ll take to Castlefield Bowl on Wednesday 10 July 2019, having released Sleep Well Beast last year, winning a GRAMMY award for Best Alternative Music Album.

Pop superstar Kylie Minogue will headline on Thursday 11 July 2019, joined by yet to be revealed special guests. They follow her acclaimed Golden UK arena tour, in support of her No.1 album. The album features the massive tracks Stop Me From Falling and title-track Dancing, and spent twenty weeks on the UK chart.

Indie legends The Kooks play on Friday 12 July 2019, joined by The Sherlocks and Sea Girls. The performance follows this summer’s release of Let’s Go Sunshine, and a headline show at London’s SSE Arena Wembley.

Sounds of the City in Manchester will then be rounded off by Hacienda Classical on Saturday 13 July 2019. Bringing together club and classical, the performance has become something of an annual staple in the city. Support comes from Inner City playing their first UK show in over two decades.

Here’s that line-up as it stands:

6 July 2019 – The Wombats + Special Guests
9 July 2019 – Elbow + Special Guests
10 July 2019 – The National + Special Guests
11 July 2019 – Kylie Minogue + Special Guests
