Review: Taking Back Sunday play new album and more at London show
US alt-rockers Taking Back Sunday played London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and we went to check it out.
Just after the release of their latest record Tidal Wave, Taking Back Sunday announced their return to the UK after a long three-year absence. And they were greeted with nothing other than love and devotion by their fans at the London show.
Led by frontman Adam Lazzara, the band played an incredible set of beloved classics and new material from their recently released album. It was not just easy on the ears but also entertaining as ever as Adam swung the mic back and forth (and around his neck, actually). The Long Island five-piece braved the sound issues and put on a show worthy of arena rock stars. In return they received 2,000-plus fans screaming along to the songs at the top of their voices to the likes of A Decade Under the Influence or You’re So Last Summer.
The endless energy exuded by the band and Mick-Jagger-like aura of Adam Lazzara never once fades throughout the 18-track set. Lazzara enthuses the audience with tour tales, such as the time they got drunk for two days straight and played the worst performance ever (they are making up for it tonight), and how the experience subsequently marked the base for writing All Access, featured on their new record. And how even 15 years on, Taking Back Sunday perfectly marry teenage rage anthems with grown-up alt-rock.
With outstanding support slots from Exeter rock trio Black Foxxes and New Jersey-born punk rocker Frank Iero and The Patience, this night was a return that left the audience wishing for more.
