Currently in the midst of a global tour in support of their third self-titled studio album, Brisbane pop makers Cub Sport are set to return to the UK this October as they continue their path to world domination.

Released back in January the album is the group’s most personal yet and is their first release since Tim and Sam Netterfield from the band tied the knot. Leaving nothing off the table, the record delves into their experiences over the past year of living life as an openly gay married couple.

Cub Sport was met with hugely positive reviews, with i-D, Sunday Times, Billboard, The Fader and more praising the release.

Cub Sport’s latest album follows their 2016 debut This Is Our Vice –  which spawned the streaming smash single Come On Mess Me Up – and 2017’s follow up LP Bats.

The band recently enjoyed viral success with their live cover version of Billie Eilish’s when the party’s over, with the 17-year-old Los Angeles-born pop star showing her support for the track in an interview on Australian radio.

Earlier this year Cub Sport came to London for a sold out show at the 320 capacity Omeara and the group will return to the UK this autumn for a small run of headline shows.

Ahead of the gigs, we asked Tim from the band to make a playlist of tracks they’ve been listening to on their jaunts across the globe.

Tyler, the creator – Running Out of Time
“I love this whole Tyler album but this song is one of my faves”.

RUNNING OUT OF TIME

Haim – Summer Girl
“This song is so warm and breezy. On first listen I loved the Lou Reed energy, then I learned he’s credited as a writer which is so special”.

Clairo – Sofia
“This song is uplifting at the same time as being heartbreaking which is probably my fave combo. As someone who also identifies as queer, I love the way Clairo sings about this exploration into same-sex romance; it’s simple, poetic and beautiful”.

Noah Cyrus – July
“This is my favourite Noah Cyrus song to date! It feels so raw and genuine and almost gives me some Lana Del Rey vibes which I adore. It’s really exciting to see Noah developing as an artist and creating something really beautiful and uniquely her own”.

Blood Orange feat. Toro y Moi – Dark & Handsome
“I think Angel’s Pulse is my fave Blood Orange record to date and this is a definite highlight for me. I also love Toro y Moi, so this collab is like a dream”.

A$AP Rocky – Sundress
“This song is just a great vibe. I love A$AP’s ability to exist outside of genre confines and this song is a perfect example of that”.

Fishing – White Sheet Beach
“This song is so nostalgic and fresh all at the same time; super chill but a real vibe”.

Starchild & The New Romantic – Hangin On
“I had this song on one of our tour playlists so it’d come on through the speakers while we were getting ready to go on stage. It’s so warm and calming – it kinda washes over you”.

Mallrat – Charlie
“I think this song is gonna be one that remains one of my faves for the rest of my life. The lyrics in this are so beautiful. Mallrat sums up incredibly deep and complex feelings that everyone can relate to in a way that’s simple and heartwarming. The poetic storytelling reminds me of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car, although the narrative is completely different. Listen to this song properly and try not to cry… I dare you!”

Cub Sport – Summer Lover
“I’ve included our song Summer Lover as the last song on this playlist ‘cause there’s a certain nostalgic resolve to it that I really love. It’s confessional and warm while being commanding and a little heart-wrenching”.
