Want to busk in London? Here’s how you can audition

Auditions are being held for 100 new London Underground busking licenses; the first of their kind in three years.

There will be 10 days of public auditions in the capital, giving performers a chance to bag one of the prestigious spots.

Acts just need to register with Busk In London before signing up to audition, which can all be done over at buskinlondon.com.

Aspiring buskers can also enter The Mayor of London’s GIGs competition, running in partnership with Transport for London since 2009.

GIGs is open to performers ages 11 – 25 who live in London; welcoming all genres from classical to country, beatbox to ballads.

The competition is divided into three categories – youth, soloists and duos, and groups. Entrants must be available to perform between 18 July and 8 August, while your act also needs to be completely portable.

As for the prize? The winner of the soloists and duos category will receive a licence to busk on London Underground. Other prizes include a training package at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, time with top industry song writers, a busking tip to Paris courtesy of Eurostar, and loads more.
