Pop makers Years & Years have confirmed a huge new summer show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

The new show will see the band take to the outdoor stage on Thursday 18 July 2019.

The news follows a whirlwind 12 months for the band, who saw their most recent album Palo Santo enter the UK charts at No.3. Palo Santo also spawned the hit singles Sanctify and If You’re Over Me.

Palo Santo
followed the band’s debut smash hit album Communion which featured the massive singles Desire, King and Eyes Shut.

Speaking of the new album, vocalist Olly Alexander compares his sound to the early works of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

“Basically,” he says, “every time I go into the studio I think ‘what would Britney or Christina have made in their heyday?’ I want melodies as irresistible as that. They were both huge when I was 12, 13. I was obsessed with them but I knew that I couldn’t be too openly obsessed with them, as a boy. I kept them hidden.”

The album also delves further into Alexander’s sexuality.

“What I love so much about being in Years & Years is this fantasy that I’m allowed to live in,” he continues. “Anything can happen, everyone’s welcome and everyone’s safe. That’s the deal. So why not keep it going in that direction.”

The band’s headline tour in support of the album saw them sell-out shows at venues such as London’s The O2 and the O2 Apollo Manchester.

Years & Years continue to support the release with a raft of headline shows and festival appearances this summer.
