The two most recent singles by Welsh alternative-rockers Estrons expertly showcase two sides of the same coin. Lilac, released earlier in 2018, is a forceful powerhouse led by vocalist Tali Källström’s venom. Recent track Cameras is altogether more restrained; an ode to Tali’s son to be read in the future. What pulls them together is her unmistakable force. “I’ll always put a fight up for you,” she sings on the latter, a notion mirrored in their sound.
Estrons are now gearing up for the release of their debut album, You Say I’m Too Much, I Say You’re Not Enough, due for release on the 5 October 2018. The record is the product of well-reported tension between creative forces Tali and guitarist Rhodri Daniel. The album title itself is seemingly an homage to their unusual situation, while this flow of gritty creativity instantly underpins their sound.
“It’s just meant to be a comment on how we’re all different,” Tali says of the title, “and we all deal with ourselves in different ways. We all have dark moments; we all have good moments. There’s a way that you’re expected to behave as a mother, as a partner, as a colleague, as a friend. I just want to allow people to stop putting themselves down all the time. It’s probably one of the hardest things to do. I still battle with it every day.”
The trio, completed by bassist Steffan Pringle, have been releasing music for the past three years. During that time Tali has battled serious turbulence, not least as a single mother making ends meet in a volatile industry. Run-ins with social services, and with the law, have spawned much of the album’s palpable anger. These themes are balanced with that of empowerment. Life has taught Tali to be strong, a lesson which bleeds powerfully into the band.

With a number of festival appearances under their belt this summer, Estrons will be supporting alt-rock legends Garbage at select on their headline run in September [Tickets]. Headline dates follow, including a show at London’s Scala in February 2019.
