Something shared by all the greats is an instantly recognisable voice. As soon the first line on a track is sung, the listener knows who they are listening to. It’s an essential quality for any true star to have.

Fortunately for the rising London-based soul musician Celeste, she possesses that gift.

Born in Los Angeles, Celeste relocated to the UK with her British born mother at the age of three, where they eventually settled in the seaside town of Brighton.

Her introduction to music came from attending daily church services. Singing along to Christian hymns sparked a passion for performing, one that was further fuelled by her grandparents delighting Celeste with the music of secular artists such as Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.

When Celeste’s father passed away when she was just sixteen she dove into his old record collection, further immersing herself into the world of soul music.

This time in her life would have a lasting effect, with the budding singer firmly deciding that music was her true calling.

Celeste first experienced underground success in 2017 with the release of her debut The Milk & The Honey EP, which was licensed to Lily Allen’s Bank Holiday label. The three song release contains the single Daydreaming; an atmospheric song about imagining bigger things to come that earned the musician comparisons to the likes of Erykah Badhu and Adele.

After some intense bidding, Universal imprint Polydor signed the rising star, releasing her Lately EP earlier this year. The EP has since been followed up by standalone singles Coco Blood, She’s My Sunshine and the truly moving Strange.

Celeste spent much of the summer of 2019 on the road, filling out festival tents with her beautifully honest and soulful tunes. Word of her mesmerising live performances has travelled fast, with a three night run at London’s Omera selling out in advance, and Michael Kiwanuka inviting Celeste to open for him on his March 2020 UK dates.
