We chat to the TV and radio presenter about the iconic ceremony.
We’ve been scouring the live circuit to find the next big thing for our New For 2018 picks, presenting the eight most exciting breakthrough artists.
Finland based Alma celebrates around 60 million streams for single Chasing Highs on Spotify, a track she followed up with a collaboration alongside global star French Montana.
There’s a youthful exuberance to her sound, yet one with a more down to earth message. She owns her mistakes, a theme running throughout her empowering sound.
Donning neon-yellow hair, it’s testament to her self-assurance. This confidence runs throughout her pop-friendly sound that puts her in the same camp as fellow New for 2018 artist Sigrid, as well as contemporaries Dua Lipa and Charli XCX. It’s pop with attitude.
She is similarly vibrant live. A recent show at London’s XOYO saw her delight fans in a notably relaxed atmosphere. To close she launched herself towards the crowd for a triumphant surf across the room.
It’s this edgy attitude, blending together pop, punk and house, that makes Alma stand out. We’re a far cry from her start as a competitor in Finland’s version of Pop Idol.
Riding the waves of singles Dye My Hair, Chasing Highs, and Phases alongside French Montana, 2018 is promising big things for the colourful emerging pop star.
