This year’s Wireless Festival was packed full of surprises.
West Coast rapper Lil Xan is one of a handful of artists spearheading a hip-hop evolution. Alongside the likes of Lil Pump and the recently departed Lil Peep, Xan reimagines the more typical sound, delivering a drone-filled melodic sound unlike much that has come before.
Tracks such as Betrayed and Slingshot have underpinned his DIY aesthetic. Both have acquired millions of streams on SoundCloud and views on YouTube to match.
As with his contemporaries Lil Xan found hip-hop after dabbling with alternative rock. The remnants of this remain in some ways, but it’s the experimental nature of the sound that breaks through most. There’s a distinctive flow to his sound, simultaneously vibrant and cleverly monotone.
Gearing up for the release of his Total Xanarchy album release, he’s been making live appearances across the United States to his ever-growing fan base. With his heavily tattooed profile increasing by the minute, it won’t be long until Lil Xan is bringing his live shows over to the UK to continue the musical revolution.
