Forget any notion that country music is all just songs about cowboy boots, horses, pick up trucks, and drinkin’ beer. Often overlooked by the UK mainstream, there exists a wave of US artists who are denying the cliches and writing heartfelt music that harks back to the golden era of the genre, where artists like Dolly Parton, The Dixie Chicks and Johnny Cash ruled the airwaves. Cue one of the genre’s brightest new stars, Ingrid Andress.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Ingrid would relocate to Nashville after graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with a degree in music composition.

Although her dream was always to be an artist in her own right, Ingrid’s calculated move to Music City would prove to be a masterstroke, giving her a crash course in what it means to be a professional songwriter in a city brimming with talent.

After hustling in the city, Ingrid began to attract more and more attention for her talent from both country and pop artists, collaborating with musicians such as Sam Hunt and Alicia Keys, and earning writing credits on tracks such as Vice’s 1234, FLETCHERS’s About You and Charli XCX’s huge hit single Boys.

Whilst songwriting emerged as a potentially lucrative career for the music maker, she never wavered on her dream of wanting to be an artist in her own right and her determination and talent earned Ingrid a deal with Warner Music Nashville.

Carrying over lessons learned from songwriting for other pop artists, she now expertly blends the two genres to create her own brand of country-pop. Evident on her first official single – the empowering Lady Like – the track made an immediate impact, gaining heavy rotation on country radio.

Follow-up More Hearts Than Mine has drawn praise from the likes of New York Times and Billboard, proving her chamaeleon-like ability to transfer between different sounds and topics, something she picked up from her previous experiences a songwriter. It now celebrates over 3million streams on Spotify.

Having made her International debut earlier this year at Country 2 Country, the musician will return to the UK in September 2019 for a small run of headline shows in London, Manchester and Glasgow.
