Hailing from Bathgate – which is nestled in between Edinburgh and Glasgow – 20-something Lewis Capaldi is a singer-songwriter making real waves with his otherworldly, soulful sound. And no, he’s not related to the guy who used to play Doctor Who.
If you’ve not heard anything by him yet, check out the video for his new track Rush ft. Jessie Reyez here:
Lewis’ down-tempo sound is punctuated by its stripped back melodies and impressive vocals. Sure, there’s touchings of the likes of Sam Smith, Tom Grennan and Ben Howard to name a few, but there’s no voice quite like this.
His intimate guitar and piano sounds are the perfect complement to his voice, which invites the listen to escape the realms of reality thanks to its ethereal quality.
Don’t let Lewis’ fledgling career put you off either. He’s the fastest ever unsigned artist to reach 25,000,000 plays on Spotify and has also built a name for himself thanks to some amazing live shows.
With just his debut single released, Lewis sold out Glasgow’s King Tuts – the infamous staple of the Scottish live music scene – and last summer he was filling tents at festivals across the UK and Ireland before the release of his debut EP.
With the release of single Bloom, he was also included on BBC’s Sound of 2018 and Vevo Dscvr tastemaker lists.
Check out streaming sensation Bruises below – the debut has been played over 29 million times on Spotify:
The gorgeously melodic Lost On You is a must-hear for burgeoning Capaldi fans:
Lewis Capaldi is currently supporting Sam Smith on his UK tour. You can also catch Lewis this year at festivals including The Great Escape, Sziget and RiZE Festivals, plus additional dates on his own UK tour in autumn. Check out his tour dates below:
4 Nov – SWX, Bristol
