As Malcolm Gladwell theorised in Outliers, it takes 10,000 hours to master a craft, something Alejandro Aranda, AKA Scarypoolparty, has indulged in, earning his chops by busking on the streets of LA throughout his young adult life.

The hard work has produced an utterly mesmerising sound, generated with just his voice and an acoustic guitar. Aranda’s early universal appeal is born from his evident natural talent and musicality, primed to send shivers down the spine. The fact that he’s a self-taught musician is enough to make anyone jealous; his sings, plays guitar and piano, and writes his own music.

Yet the biggest surprise of his career to date arrives in the form of the dark electro-inspired DIAMONDS. A leap away from the soulful pop that underpinned his early career, the industrial track paves a new direction for the singer and songwriter, one that leaves 2020 excitingly unpredictable.

Alejandro Aranda - DIAMONDS

The musician’s big break came earlier this year when he auditioned for the US TV Talent show American Idol with his rendition of original song Out Loud, leaving judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan speechless.

Since his initial audition, Scarypoolparty has become a viral sensation, with clips of him performing on the show receiving millions of hits online. The musician made it to the final of the American Idol, eventually finishing as runner up.

Although he didn’t win the show, Hollywood Records quickly signed the young star and put out his debut single Tonight  – co-produced and written by Twin Shadow – in June 2019.

After a run of summer headline dates sold out instantly, Alejandro Aranda embarked on a US tour this October, culminating with two shows at LA’s thousand capacity Belasco Theatre.

UK fans will get the opportunity to see Scarypoolparty for the first time this December when he comes to London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen.
