BBC Summer Social returns to Liverpool this year

Watch our Minimasters speak to Sam & Mark about what people can expect from the BBC children's festival.

Following its debut last year, BBC Summer Social will return to Croxteth Country Park in August 2019 for two days of fun and music.

Ahead of the event, we sent Minimasters Nova and Honor to meet CBBC presenters Sam & Mark to discuss what families going to Summer Social can expect and to ask the duo what advice they would give to children who want to one day work in the industry.

Running from the 3 – 4 August 2019, the BBC’s biggest family festival will welcome a host of live performances.

Saturday welcomes artists from across the musical spectrum and more, with the Sunday boasting performances by some of the biggest names in children’s entertainment.

Busted will top the line-up on Saturday 3 August 2019, joined by Pixie Lott, Nina Nesbitt, John Newman, Freya Ridings, and The Voice UK finalist Donel. The Saturday line-up will also welcome stars of CBBC shows, including Almost Never, appearing live on the main stage.

The BBC will be sharing live TV and radio broadcasts from site, including Jo Whiley chatting to some of the biggest names on the bill – and hosting some very special live sessions – for her BBC Radio 2 show.

Sunday 4 August 2019 will welcome CBeebies superstar Mr Tumble, as well as Andy and the Odd Socks, Dr Ranj, Cook and Line from Swashbuckle, Yolanda and Hey Duggee.

Across both days fans will have access to a huge range of outdoor activities, including the BBC Sport field hosting tennis, parkour and a Match of the Day Kickabout Challenge.

The event’s sports programme will also welcome Mr Motivator, Tekkerz Kid and Liverpool’s biggest sports teams Everton FC and Liverpool FC.

Together representatives from Everton in the Community and the Liverpool FC Foundation will host 30 minutes skills sessions and matches. BBC Summer Social will also host sessions run by ECB (cricket), RFU (rugby), LTA (tennis) and the Golf Foundation. England Netball will also be running skills sessions and mini matches.

They’ll also be Doctor Who themed activity, a Bedtime Stories tent, performances and Q&As with some of CBBC’s biggest shows, and a field full of inflatable fun.

The sports programme is completed by Greenbank Sports Academy, who will be offering accessible sports such as boccia, sitting volleyball and activity bingo, and British Cycling‘s forest adventure trail for both adults and youngsters.

Elsewhere, the Blue Peter garden will come to life for a mini-escape in the heart of the festival, and some family favourite presenters will take to the main stage, including Sam Nixon, Yasmin Evans, Jonny Nelson, Hacker T Dog and many more.

Croxteth Country Park in Liverpool will welcome BBC Summer Social across two days, with musical artists joined by the best of the BBC, CBBC and CBeebies to entertain all the family.

Also hosting activity zones, theatre shows, interactive and inspiring workshops, outdoor and indoor activities, appearances by popular children’s authors, junior discos, gaming areas, character walkabouts and more, BBC Summer Social marks the company’s biggest family festival.
