Celebrating his extraordinary and incredibly important life, Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition has transferred to Berlin’s Bikini Berlin exhibition space.

The exhibition includes previously unseen artefacts celebrating 100 years since Mandela’s birth and delves into the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, designed to educate, entertain and inspire. It celebrates the impact of the lawyer, revolutionary, prisoner and eventual world leader.

Visitors will have the opportunity to get up close to artefacts that have never before left his native South Africa, presented alongside immersive presentations and re-creations.

Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition unfolds over several experiential zones, from rural Mvezo, Transkei, through his battle with the now globally condemned apartheid regime, to his life as South Africa’s first black president.

“…[I]t truly captures the spirit of our global icon whose name has become synonymous with international solidarity, justice and peace,” says Nelson Mandela’s grandson HRH Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela. “It succeeds in quintessentially depicting the man and the legend whose struggle and sacrifice has captivated the hearts and minds of millions around the world. This exhibition is truly an inspiration and an inspired effort; I believe that everyone who sees it will agree that the legacy lives on and that the dream will never die.”

What are the critics saying?

“Brings an epic and inspiring struggle alive” – The Times

“A remarkable life depicted in everyday objects” – The Guardian

Exhibition Advisor Lizzy Moriarty explains how many of the objects are drawn from his house and have never been catalogued or curated before.

“They accompanied him through his life and through them, we can speak of his extraordinary life and his contribution to reconciliation,” she continues. “It will be like wandering through his life with him guiding you and asking you what you would have done in the same situation.”

Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition, mounted in collaboration with the Royal House of Mandela and the Mvezo Development Trust, marks 100 years since his birth and five years since his passing.

After a successful London run, the exhibition will arrive at Bikini Berlin later this year and is currently booking from 19 October 2019 to 15 March 2020. Various entry times are available for each date, and can be selected when purchasing tickets.
