We go behind the scenes at The Clash – plus test your knowledge in the quiz we put to the stars of Bath Rugby

Next April, Bath Rugby will host Leicester Tigers at the home of English rugby in the ultimate battle between two historic foes – The Clash is coming!

Yesterday we joined stars from Bath Rugby down at Twickenham as they launched The Clash against Leicester Tigers, which will take place on 8 April 2017. The match is the first time that a non-London based team will have hosted a season game at Twickenham, and the day promises to be like no other.

To celebrate this historic meeting, The Clash will also include a festival of entertainment for all the family before and after the whistle is blown.

Adjoining the stadium will be a three-zoned mini-city called The Forum that will bring the Best of Bath to Twickenham, with a feast of food and drink, stage acts, players past and present. Within the stadium itself, a pre-match show featuring music and pyrotechnics will build as the players enter the arena for the onset of what promises to be one of the classic rugby clashes of the season.

At the launch yesterday, we spoke to Bath Rugby stars Jonathan Joseph, Anthony Watson and Guy Mercer about what it means to be a part of such an iconic moment for the club.

“Whenever the two teams play against each other, it’s always such a heated game, it’s always very intense and down to the wire,” Watson explained, “and I think that really adds to the occasion.”

Joseph noted that being at Twickenham will make the game extra special. “It will be a great day out for families and there’ll be loads to do around the stadium. There’s a great rivalry between the two teams and playing here at Twickenham means the whole day will be a great spectacle.”

We also got to quiz the players about just how much they knew about Bath and Leicester, including questions on the cities’ population, universities and rugby track records (and they actually all did surprisingly well!) – we even asked them all to give us their best Bath accents, and they were all spot on!
