Now only a few months away, organisers of the World Taekwondo Championships have confirmed the schedule for the five-day event.
Held every two years, the action takes place at Manchester Arena for the very first time from 15-19 May 2019 and tickets are available now.
Unlike previous tournaments, 2019’s championships will potentially give spectators two opportunities to catch their favourite athletes live in person. From the final 128 through to the quarter-finals, the action will take place across seven courts, with the semi-finals and final being fought on the show court.
Fan favourites such as Korean No.1 Lee-Dae Hoon and Russia’s Vladislav Larin are set to appear in the competition, alongside homegrown athletes such as two-time Olympic gold medalist Jade Jones and Bianca Walkden, who walked away with a bronze medal at 2016’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Jade Jones will be making a triumphant return to Manchester. In October 2018, the Brit won a gold medal in the Taekwondo GP, coming out victorious against China’s Lijun Zhou in the final of the competition.
You can relive the action in the video below:
To ensure the athletes are in the best possible condition to compete for the hugely important competition, all finals will take place in the evening of the following day’s action, with the exception of Sunday where spectators will be treated to a huge seven final matches.
