Awful Auntie is based on David Walliams’ best-selling children’s novel of the same name. First published in 2014, the novel has sold over 1.2 million copies and tells the story of Stella, a young girl whose life is changed forever when she visits London with her parents.

Waking up three months later, only Stella’s Aunt Alberta can tell her what has happened. But not everything Alberta tells her turns out to be true – and Stella quickly discovers she’s in for the fight of her life against her very own awful Auntie.

The stage production – adapted and directed by Neal Foster – has just completed a 15-month UK tour and arrives in London this December.

Leading the company in the role of Awful Auntie is Richard James (Aunt Alberta), joined by Roberta Bellekom (Wagner), Ashley Cousins (Soot), Harry Sutherland (Gibbon) and Georgina Leonidas (Stella).

David Walliams, star of TV shows including Little Britain and Britain’s Got Talent, has become a phenomenon in the world of children’s books. Since the publication of his first novel, The Boy in the Dress (2008), he has since published ten chartbusting novels, three short story collections and five hilarious picture books.

Three of his novels have been awarded Children’s Book of the Year at the National Book Award and The Boy in the Dress, Ratburger, Mr Stink, Grandpa’s Great Escape and Gangsta Granny have all been adapted for television. Gangsta Granny also enjoyed a successful run the West End and on tour last year.

The London production of Awful Auntie arrives at the Bloomsbury Theatre on 12 December 2018 and runs until 6 January 2019.
