Opera House Blackpool will host a brand new production of bestselling children’s author David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy, running from Wednesday 11 – Sunday 15 March 2020.

Produced by the award-winning Birmingham Stage, it marks the third time Walliams has collaborated with the company having previously brought Awful Auntie and Gangsta Granny to life. The latter received a coveted Olivier Award nomination.

“I absolutely loved the BSC’s terrific productions of Gangsta Granny and Awful Auntie,” Walliams says, “so I can’t wait to see their brand-new production of Billionaire Boy! It promises to be a brilliant show!”

Billionaire Boy tells to story of Joe Spud, the richest boy in the country at just twelve years old, and his search for friendship. Leaving his life of luxury in favour for a local comprehensive school, things don’t go as planned for Joe.

The book has been adapted by Neal Foster, who also acts for and manages the Birmingham Stage Company. The company is equally renowned for bringing Horrible Histories to life in London’s West End and across the globe.

Foster will direct, with design by Jackie Trousdale, lighting by Jason Taylor, sound by Nick Sagar and music by Jack Poore.

Walliams has swiftly become one of today’s most celerbated writers, having first published The Boy in the Dress in 2008. In total, David has spent 138 weeks at the top of the children’s chart, more than any other author ever.
