Ellen Kent to tour Madama Butterfly and La Boheme
The Puccini operas are now touring across the UK.
Senbla by arrangement with Opera International presents An Ellen Kent Production of the Giacomo Puccini operas Madama Butterfly and La Boheme, with international soloists, highly praised chorus and full orchestra, now touring nationwide.
The tour started in Manchester on 21 January 2020, and runs throughout February, March and into April.
Both productions feature the talents of Korean soprano Elena Dee, alongside international soprano Alyona Kistenyova.
Based on a true story, the award-winning Madama Butterfly tells the heart-wrenching tale of a young Japanese girl who falls in love with a US naval lieutenant. Highlights from the opera include the Humming Chorus, One Fine Day and Love Duet.
The stunning set design includes a Japanese garden, and costumes include antique wedding Kimonos imported from the Land of the Rising Sun.
The hugely popular La Boheme is considered the most romantic operas Puccini ever wrote. Telling the tragic tale of the doomed Mimi and her love for a penniless writer, the Paris-set story includes the arias Your Tiny Hand is Frozen, The Call Me Mimi and Muzetta’s Waltz.
Both operas are sung in Italian, with English subtitles provided on an unobtrusive screen positioned above the stage.
