Everything you need to know about Dinner at the Twits

Fans of the Roald Dahl classic will soon be able to see the gruesome twosome brought to life when the Twits host the most deliciously disgusting dinner party imaginable – and you’re invited in this fully immersive, theatrical experience.

Mr and Mrs Twit are having a dinner party in their windowless house and ghastly garden, which is taking over The Vaults from 4 September and here’s everything you need to know…

What’s on the menu?

Dinner at the Twits includes the chance to fish the glass eye from your yummy cocktail aperitif, hunt for tasty concealed canapes and fiendishly good hors d’oeuvres, brave a Baroque Bird Pie Banquet and potentially perilous pudding – all served with half a bottle of wine or non-alcoholic drinks.

As well the Baroque Bird Pie, the banquet also includes tasty morsels such as Glowing Hug Tight Glue, Bloater Paste and Treasures of the Compost Heap. What’s more, Bompas & Parr and 40FT Brewery are creating a bespoke beer for the event, Mr Twit’s Odious Ale, using yeast swabbed from Roald Dahl’s very own writing chair. With the permission of the Roald Dahl Estate, they have taken a swab from the author’s chair, from which they will culture the native yeast and use it to brew all the beer for the event.

Who’s it for?

Les Enfants Terribles theatre company and ebp, the creators of Olivier Award-nominated Alice’s Adventures Underground and The Game’s Afoot, are behind the event, which for the first time recreates one of Roald Dahl’s classic novels specifically for adults – that’s right, this isn’t for nasty, nosy little children. The experience promises to be a fully immersive, packed full of as many loud noises and smoke effects as it is full of culinary delights.

What else can we expect?

Every guest will be treated to 90 minutes of entertainment from the best worst hosts ever. Curious canapes and prickly cocktails will be served straight from Mr Twit’s garden, including The Twits Garden Spritz, consisting of wild nettle and thistle-infused Aperol, wild strawberry vermouth, prosecco and soda, garnished with nettles and thistles – straw optional! – while The Terrible Shrinks is a Roly Poly Bird berry and orange vodka topped with soda, garnished with a scented helium balloon.

Mr & Mrs Twit will also graciously open up the Muggle-Wumps’ Downside Up Cocktail Cavern in The Vaults for those too timid to try their culinary cornucopia. From 18:00, guests can come in and relax in the Muggle-Wumps’ topsy-turvy turnabout world with questionable cocktails and tantalising tinctures.

How do we book a place at the dinner table?
